Known as football in most of
the world, soccer is the most popular sport in the world. It is
played with eleven players for each of the two teams on a large grass
field with
goals at each end. Similar games have been played since Roman and
medieval times, but it wasn't until the 19th century that the rules
were
written down. Strangely enough, soccer is not a very popular game in the United States, even though the rest of the world embraces it. The World Cup, a competition of the countries of the world and their teams, is held every four years and is arguably the biggest sporting event held on the globe, even bigger than the Olympics.
